How Can severe Elbow Pain Be Treated?

My son is 10yrs old and is the pitcher on his baseball team. His elbow has started bothering him. I ice his arm daily and he tells me he s fine. Once he starts throwing it gets aggravated. I ask him where it hurts and he states it bothers him along the base of his elbow. Do you have any recommendations, should I take him to a specialist?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for the query. I understand your concern.
Your son seems to have over exerted his elbow while playing... causing stress to tendons, muscles or ligaments around the joint.
He needs rest. Ice packs do help in relieving acute pain...still anti inflammatory pills over the counter/local application of muscle relaxant cream would help.
Consultation of an orthopedic surgeon iis advised considering his young age....for local examination &needful imaging investigation (x ray,MRI) would pin point the cause followed by specific management.
Thanks.
